Box Knight

Box Knight is 1.0. We Made A Thing Studios (Adelaide) launched it on Steam on 25 August 2026 after a public demo. You can buy it. The launch price is $14.99, with a 15% intro cut to $12.74 as of this morning.

This is not a scored recap of our launch news. It is a first-week review of a buyable brawler: side-scrolling rooms, cardboard weapons, co-workers turned monsters, and a CEO at the top of the tower.

Steam does not have a score label yet. Nine user reviews, all positive, is a vibe, not a verdict. We are not going to pretend otherwise. If you are at gamescom, Ukiyo in Hall 10.1, stand F63, still has hands-on. That is a footnote, not the story.

The loop is Friday at 5pm. You become the Box Knight and clear departments until you die, then the Council of Janitors banks a little permanence for next week. In-run upgrades pay you for playing well. Enemy types ask for different hits (not just mash). Builds split between brawler and vanish-and-poke. Cosmetics (helmets, uniforms) are the drip layer.

Couch co-op and split-screen are the full-release pitch the demo did not carry. Solo still works; the joke lands harder with someone on the couch. Early Steam notes call the animations tight and the humour distinctly Aussie. One player even flagged Steam Deck as fine. Take that as a day-one anecdote, not certification.

What is thin: a 1.0 with nine public reviews, no German language, and a roguelite that will live or die on whether the tower stays funny after the tenth retry. The Hades x The Office pitch is marketing. What you actually get is closer to a colourful beat-em-up with run structure.

Score 7.4/10. Box Knight is an easy recommend if you want a loud, short-session cardboard brawler and can live with a brand-new 1.0. Wait if you need a German build, four-player online, or a Steam score with thousands of reviews behind it.
