Studio Wildcard has rolled out the Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade for ARK: Survival Ascended, together with a reworked Giganotosaurus and the Enigmasaur, the last creature of Fantastic Tames Season 1. The developer's Steam post Community Crunch 531, published on November 7, 2026, lists all three as out now. Steam currently lists the game at 75% off, at $11.24 instead of $44.99.

What the update changes

According to SteamDB's copy of the patch notes, the engine upgrade optimizes rendering, and foliage and distant vistas are improved across all platforms. Lumen Lite is currently enabled only with select PC graphics settings, with broader support planned. The official server patch notes on the ARK forums list the release as server version v97, dated November 6. PCGamesN reported that the move to 5.8 was originally scheduled for the end of September and got pushed back. For modded play, Studio Wildcard said on its Steam community page that 99.9% of mods have been recooked and validated for UE5.8.

The Giganotosaurus rework is the third TLC from Extra Life's 2025 community votes. Studio Wildcard had announced it for November 5, a date PCGamesN noted marks eleven years to the day since the creature first appeared in Survival Evolved. SteamDB lists a fully updated model and animations, an additional color region and a new passive called Wounded Fury. Taming changes most: the official post says the days of finding a safe vantage point and stocking up on tranquilizers are gone. Players now have to prove themselves against some of the ARKs' fiercest threats and then survive a fight with the Giga itself.

The Enigmasaur completes Fantastic Tames Season 1 after the Burrowbuck and Cerberax. Studio Wildcard describes it as a shapeshifter that does not just imitate other species, "it becomes them", and can hold on to tricks from earlier forms, for example a Rex with a scorpion's sting. The official server patch notes add it to The Center, Scorched Earth, Aberration, Ragnarok, Extinction, Valguero, Lost Colony and Astraeos.

Player numbers and what comes next

On November 7 at 11:41 UTC, Steam counted 17,243 players, with a peak of 24,977 that day and rank 88 on the current players chart. The reception remains split: of 120,876 Steam reviews, 59% are positive, which Steam rates as Mixed. The game came out on October 25, 2023 and is still listed as Early Access; Gematsu lists it for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.

Several dates follow shortly. SteamDB's patch notes say bonus rates on the official network run until Wednesday, November 11, and Studio Wildcard plans community-favorite dino colors on official servers from November 13 to November 23. For ARK: Dragontopia, released on July 3, 2026, two more reveals were set for HillbillyWilly's stream on November 7 at 7 AM Pacific and the final two for a video by GP on November 9. Dragontopia's own Steam reviews are Mixed, with 40% of 235 reviews positive. In the current Extra Life campaign, every $40,000 raised unlocks a classic-creature TLC, up to four; by October 31 it had passed $50,000.

For anyone who stopped playing, the engine upgrade and the new Giga taming challenge are live now, and the bonus rates on official servers give returning players until November 11 to make use of them. The store data gives no end date for the discount. The Early Access label and the mixed review share are worth weighing before buying.
