Cyberpunk 2077 drops to $17.99 as Edgerunners season 2 hits Netflix

Cyberpunk 2077 is 70% off on Steam until October 26 and back in the German top sellers, as the second Edgerunners season starts streaming on October 20.

Cyberpunk 2077 is 70 percent off on Steam until October 26, 2026, which puts it at $17.99 instead of $59.99. The game is back in the German Steam store's top sellers at seventh place, after 50 hours off the list.

The sale overlaps with the return of the anime. Engadget reports that season two of Netflix's Cyberpunk 2077 anime streams October 20, and GameSpot wrote on October 19 that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 "officially launches tomorrow on Netflix".

A second season in Night City

CD Projekt Red's official site describes Edgerunners 2 as a ten-episode standalone series in which CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER return to Night City "with a new story, fresh characters". Kai Ikarashi directs, Kanno Ichigo is lead character designer. According to GamesRadar+, there are no weekly releases: the season drops all at once.

The show leans on the game directly. GamesRadar+ reports that the director searched Cyberpunk 2077 with a "virtual camera" to find the best Night City spots to use in the anime. GameSpot reports that Hideo Kojima returns to Night City for the season and reminds players they may have seen him "in Konpeki Plaza during The Heist".

The first reviews of the show are split. GamesRadar+ calls it a "worthy follow-up" that "can't quite top its predecessor". Kotaku is harsher: it says the season trades away the first season's focus "for no real benefit", and its reviewer writes, "In truth, I was mostly just underwhelmed."

Where the game stands

On Steam, 86 percent of 988,882 user reviews are positive, which Steam rates Very Positive. As of 22:41 UTC on October 19, about 32,900 people were playing, with a peak of 54,442 that day, placing the game 37th by current players.

The anime has lined up with player interest before. Engadget wrote that the game "ballooned in popularity on Steam after the first season premiered", and GameSpot reported that Cyberpunk 2077 had crossed 20 million copies sold as it rode the Edgerunners wave, with player numbers up more than 200 percent according to Steam Charts. More recently, GamesRadar+ reported that the game hit its highest Steam player peak in 3 years, with CD Projekt Red thanking Edgerunners for "tons of new chooms".

For anyone who wants to see the Night City locations from the show for themselves, the timing is convenient: the discount runs until October 26, and SteamDB lists the same 70 percent cut in other regional currencies. Looking further ahead, GameSpot reports that work continues on the sequel, Cyberpunk 2, and that a big-screen movie adaptation is in development.
