Enshrouded 1.0 leaves Early Access, Steam peak hits 113,542 players

Keen Games released Enshrouded 1.0 on October 15. The full version adds the Cinder's Cradle region and an ending, and the game is third in Steam's US and German top sellers.

Enshrouded left Early Access on October 15, 2026, when Keen Games released version 1.0. On October 17 the survival action RPG entered Steam's most played chart at rank 35 with a daily peak of 102,491 players, after it was not in the top 100 a week earlier. On October 18 it peaked at 113,542 concurrent players, and it sits at number 3 in the top sellers of both the US and the German Steam store.

What 1.0 adds

Keen Games laid out the content in a changelog post on October 14. The main addition is Cinder's Cradle, a new area in the north beyond the Veilwater Basin: a lava wasteland full of ruins below, a realm of floating islands above. Two new Hollow Halls open in the Albaneve Summits and the Veilwater Basin, and Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes now reach further toward the edges of the world. A new tier of progression comes with the region, and according to the developer the story of Embervale is concluded "for now".

PC Games reports 14 new enemy types in Cinder's Cradle and says every written document is now fully voiced in German, English or Mandarin, as are the craftsman survivors and main quest givers. PCGH describes a new Funkenwerk system for building your own minigames, dungeons and challenges with switches, traps and logic gates. The same outlet reports a new renderer that adds detail to distant terrain and buildings, plus lower memory use.

1.0 also launched on PlayStation 5, PC Games reports, and Notebookcheck adds that the PS5 version supports the PS5 Pro. The Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027; in a statement quoted by Gematsu, Keen Games said reaching its quality target on Xbox "would require additional time."

Reception and launch fixes

On Steam, Enshrouded holds 108,749 user reviews, 85% of them positive, for a Very Positive rating. GamePro reports a Metacritic score of 89, which by Metascore puts it among the three best German video games of all time. Notebookcheck writes that the game has reportedly sold more than five million copies; it entered Early Access on January 24, 2024 and, according to the site, received eight major content updates since.

The launch needed quick repairs. Hotfix 1.0.0.1 on October 15 fixed random crashes and crashes caused by certain peripherals. Hotfix 1.0.0.2 followed on October 16 and fixed a grey fog rendering bug on Nvidia cards and a rare crash during save migration. Corrupted character saves are not migrated for now, and Keen Games says a fix is on the way. Until a sound issue is solved, the studio recommends keeping the in-game master volume at 100%.

For anyone new to the genre: Enshrouded shares open world, survival and base-building with Valheim and Necesse. With Terraria it shares open world, survival and online co-op.

Early Access owners do not have to buy the game again, and PC Games reports that existing saves are converted automatically. On Steam the game currently costs $35.99 instead of $39.99, a 10% discount. Crossplay between PC and PS5 is not part of 1.0: a developer wrote on Steam that the studio aims to add it later, and Mein-MMO notes there is no date yet. Creative mode is still on the list, the developer added, but needs a lot of work. Group size depends on the source: Notebookcheck reports up to 16 players in one world on PC, with dedicated servers limited to PC, while Game Informer describes 8-player co-op.
