Space Marine 2 drops to $14.99 until October 24, Chaos Siege event is live

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 costs $14.99 on Steam until October 24, 75 percent off its regular $59.99. At the same time, a community event is running: according to the official Steam post "Chaos on Avarax - Community Event" from October 20, players who survive a total of 15 waves in Chaos Siege Mode before November 03 unlock 100 Accolades.

What Patch 15 brought

Chaos Siege arrived with Patch 15, which publisher Focus Entertainment released on October 1 for the game's second anniversary and presents as the start of its third year. The free update's headline is a new mode that, in Focus's words, lets players "play as Chaos Space Marines in PvE games for the very first time", fighting Tyranids and Cadians among others. The update also added the Crucible System, where players take on Penances, meaning debuffs and negative modifiers, and the One-Handed Thunder Hammer, which Focus calls "one of the community's most-requested weapons". It is available to the Tactical, Assault and Bulwark classes, among others. Push Square also points to a rework of the Tactical class perks.

Season Pass 3 launched alongside the update. It contains the Space Wolves Champion Pack with a Wolf Guard Champion skin for the Bulwark, and Focus released the new Exorcists Cosmetic Pack next to it. Both are cosmetic DLC on top of the base game.

On the same day as the event post, developer Saber Interactive published Hotfix 15.2. It reworks the One-Handed Thunder Hammer in PvE: a charge now builds in 1.25 seconds, Energy Loop can follow a Charged Impact, and the heroic Power Maul's Ground Slam now forces enemies to stagger. The studio notes that the Power Maul's text descriptions do not yet reflect these changes and will be updated in a future patch. The hotfix also stops PvE Quick Match players from being matched into Crucible, fixes Loyalist Marines spawning behind closed gates in Chaos Siege, and removes a Siege softlock in the transition zone after a wave sequence.

Players and what comes next

On Steam, the game had 11,934 players on October 22 at 10:41 UTC, with a peak of 21,792 that day, placing it 93rd by current players. Its 230,983 user reviews are 84 percent positive, rated Very Positive. Notebookcheck reports that AMD is celebrating 12 million Space Marine 2 players with a $3,400 Maingear gaming PC giveaway, with entries closing October 29 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. The milestone itself is older: Push Square reported in May that the game had just reached 12 million players.

Focus has laid out the rest of the year. Patch 16 is the remaining update planned for 2026, and the Patch 15 notes say it will take another look at Blessings and Atonements in Siege mode. According to Focus, the Apothecary joins the ranks with Patch 17 in the first quarter of 2027. In total, Year 3 is set to bring five major updates, Patches 15 to 19, plus five Cosmetic and Champion Packs, and the developers have confirmed a Greatsword for that period.

For anyone who has waited or dropped off, the timing is straightforward: the discount runs until October 24, the Chaos Siege event until November 03, and the new mode, weapon and Crucible System come with the base game. Season Pass 3 is a separate purchase. Expect the One-Handed Thunder Hammer's in-game descriptions to lag behind its actual behavior until the next patch.
