Klei Entertainment, the beloved Canadian studio behind Don't Starve, Oxygen Not Included, and Griftlands, has officially unveiled Away Team — a multiplayer sandbox simulation game set in the Oxygen Not Included universe.
Described as "a new Oxygen Not Included game," Away Team strands you and your crew on an alien world after a research mission goes wrong. Your task: harness the environment, master temperature, pressure, chemical reactions, and more to survive — and possibly thrive.
The game was announced during the April 2026 Triple-i Initiative showcase, where a trailer revealed its side-scrolling sandbox format. Unlike the original ONI, which is strictly single-player, Away Team features full online co-op. You and your friends can build bases, manage resources, and explore procedurally generated alien biomes together.
A single-player playtest took place in mid-2026, and the developer's community is already buzzing with speculation. Early testers describe the game as "ONI by way of Terraria and Noita" — emphasizing the physics-driven simulation and the creative destruction that comes from manipulating real-time chemical reactions.
Steam tags paint a clear picture: Simulation, Base Building, Procedural Generation, Automation, Resource Management, and Space. It's everything ONI fans love, now with the chaos of multiplayer.
No release date has been confirmed yet, but Klei has a track record of thoughtful Early Access launches. The game is already on Steam (wishlist it now), and the playtest feedback suggests a solid foundation. For anyone who spent hundreds of hours keeping duplicants alive, Away Team looks like the next logical — and social — evolution.
Wishlist it on Steam and keep an eye out for the next playtest window.
