STAR WARS Empire at War - Gold Pack ranks No. 4 in German Steam top sellers

Petroglyph's 2010 strategy collection sits fourth in Germany and sixth in the US on Steam, with a listed 60 percent discount whose package is unclear.

STAR WARS Empire at War - Gold Pack is among the best sellers on Steam right now. The strategy collection holds fourth place in the German store's top sellers and sixth place in the US store. In neither list is it a new entry.

Steam's sale data shows a 60 percent discount: $33.10 instead of $89.98, or 33,10 € instead of 89,98 € in Germany. No end date is listed. That price does not match the game's own store page, which lists the Gold Pack at $19.99 without a discount. The sources do not make clear which package the discounted price belongs to, so it is worth checking what is in the cart before paying.

For context, GamesRadar reports that Steam's Autumn Sale has already ended and notes that most Steam sales and events last around seven days.

A 2010 release that still gets patches

Petroglyph's game came to Steam on May 25, 2010, published by LucasArts, Lucasfilm and Disney. According to the store page, players take command of the Rebellion, the Empire or the Star Wars Underworld in a galactic civil war.

The game has kept receiving support. Destructoid reported, under the headline "17 years later, Petroglyph is still patching Star Wars: Empire at War", that a patch moved the game from a 32-bit to a 64-bit executable and addressed out-of-sync multiplayer issues. The pinned patch thread on the Steam community hub is marked "Updated 10/22/24". In it, Petroglyph says it worked with Disney and Lucasfilm Games and that the update contains "a number of gameplay fixes and improvements reported by the community". The thread also notes that these updates only apply to the 64-bit version of the game.

Players on Steam rate it highly: of 43,376 user reviews, 97 percent are positive, which Steam labels Overwhelmingly Positive.

Anyone hoping for a successor will find little in the sources. PCGamesN reported that the developers pitched a sequel to EA, but "nothing has resulted", and a developer told the site that "no official expansion is in the works". None of the sources points to an announced sequel or remaster.

For a new or returning player, the case rests on the reviews and the ongoing patch support. The base Gold Pack is listed at $19.99 on its store page, while the contents of the 60 percent offer are unclear. Whoever buys or reinstalls should launch the 64-bit version to get the latest fixes.
